Memorial Scholarships

The NYPD Running Club is proud to announce that proceeds made from our annual NYPD Memorial Run will once again allow us to offer college scholarships to children, grand children, or great-grand children of NYPD officers who have died in the line of duty.

In 2009 we gave out five scholarships totaling $14,000. This year we anticipate that we'll distribute an equal amount of money.

The NYPD Running Club will be awarding one four year scholarship of $3,500 per year (total $14,000), and multiple one time awards still yet to be determined.

High school seniors who are children, grand children or great-grand children of any NYPD Member of the Service who died in the line of duty are invited to participate in a competitive exam for these awards. The deceased member of the service must have been a uniformed, civilian, or an Auxiliary Police Officer. Winners will be based on examination scores and other criteria determined by the Officers of the NYPD Running Club.

On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, from 6-9pm, the Police Reserve Association will hold its Annual College Scholarship Examination at the Police Academy, 235 East 20th Street New York, NY 10003. Applicants for the NYPD Memorial Scholarships will take that examination, but will not be competing against the Police Reserve Association applicants.

The exam is open to college bound high school students, who will be attending a two or four-year College and be matriculated during the period from September 1, 2010 until August 31, 2011. Proof of acceptance to the school must be provided before awards can be claimed.

All winners will be notified in May 2010, and the awards presentations will take place on May 16, 2010 at the 9th Annual NYPD Memorial 5K Run.

Those wishing to apply to take the examination should fill out the PDF application and return it to the NYPD Running Club by Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Any questions relative to these scholarships should be directed to us via email at NYPDRC@Verizon.net, or call us at 212-978-3732.
